expensive food in japan

 
 
Depend on where you visit in Japan, it can be quite different, since some city are best known for tuna, some are eggs (yes you read right, the most expensive chicken egg in Japan will set you back ~$50)

But here some of the top and most expensive Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, (price shown are base on per person standand size food only Japanese Dinner)

one of which has been show on "No Reservations" -- a three michelin stars sushi bar

Price: depend on the day, but it never fall below 30000 yen ($360), you get 15-20 pieces of sushi

there are actual four today, they all have the same name and operate by Jiro-san son.
As funny as it sound the second location run by his oldest, third run by his middle, forth run by his youngest, they all charger about the same price, but if you want the real deal go to the address shown.

Fugu are not as expensive as you might think in Japan, there are total 22 type eatable Fufu sold in Japan, while there only one allow in US (the Farm rasie not toxin are are also allow). The Chef in Japan only need one license while US need two (one from Japan and one from FDA), License in Japan are lifetime while FDA one need to renew yearly. No sample required in Japan, while each shipment to US must approve by FDA, (Japan ->Japan Custom -> US Custom -> FDA -> Restaurant) , custom both both country are FDA have the power to sizsure the shipment).

Kaz Sushi in DC currently offer Fugu dinner @ $150 per person
